How To Change The Past: The Pruning Shears of Revision

You have probably heard about the law of attraction and that we can manifest an event and literally make it happen in the future.

Have you ever wondered though if the same can be done for the past?

What if you could insert or remove an event from your past the same way you insert or remove an event from your future using visualization and other manifestation techniques?

How would your life change if you could erase certain negative or unfortunate events that happened to you?

Would you be happier?

Would you be more confident?

Would you be rich?

Would you be happily married?

Would you believe in yourself more?

What if I told you that you CAN actually manifest events in the past, just as easily as you can manifest in the future?

Not only that, but you can also un-manifest things from your past, making them disappear. Making them never to have happened.

WHY IT IS POSSIBLE TO CHANGE THE PAST

From Neville Goddard, we have learned that absolutely any desire we have is possible to manifest in our lives because Creation is finished.

Every single probability has already happened and they are all happening in the now.

The way manifesting works is we use our imagination to choose -from all those infinite probabilities- the version of reality that corresponds to the fulfilment of our desire. And by focusing on that specific probability, we transfer to the lifeline where it is true.

The same is true for the past.

If all possible versions of the past exist already, then we can focus our imagination on the specific version of the past we would have liked, and this way we will be transferred to the lifeline where this version of the past is our actual past.

It doesn't matter if the event we want to change happened a minute ago, a month ago or 50 years ago. The process to change it is the same in any case.

This technique comes from Neville Goddard and it's called Revision. He talked about it in his lecture "The Pruning Shears of Revision" (you can read the full text here).

HOW TO CHANGE THE PAST: STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

  • Select the scene from your past that you would like to change. It could be someone insulting you, a conversation that went wrong, someone breaking up with you etc. It doesn't matter if it was a big or small event, just choose something that had a negative impact on you and you wish it had happened differently.

  • Re-create the scene as you would like it to have happened, making it as detailed and vivid as possible.

  • Enter a meditative state (which is a relaxed state where your body is immobile).

  • In this relaxed, meditative state, play your new scene in your mind's eye, making sure it is from a FIRST PERSON PERSPECTIVE (meaning that you aren't looking at your body like you look at actors on the TV screen but you are IN your body, looking out).

  • Play your scene over and over in your imagination several times until it feels natural, as if you were really there. As if it really happened.

  • When it feels real and nature enough to you, end the meditation.

INSTANT REVISION: CHANGING THE PAST ON THE GO

In addition to the method above, there's a second way you can use the pruning shears of revision to change your past.

Have you ever said or done something that you immediately regretted?

Have you ever heard or seen something that you immediately thought you were better off not knowing?

Have you received news that you wish you could instantly change?

It can be anything:

  • Your brother saying he completely messed up in his last job interview.

  • Something that slipped out in front of your boss, when you thought you were just thinking it, having no intention to say it out loud.

  • Something that makes you worry, like news about the economy being being bad and businesses like yours closing one after the other.

  • Going to buy tickets to a concert, only to find out it's sold out.

Whatever it is, you can change it.

There is a second, instant way you can use the shears of revision. It is very similar to the original method described above, but it requires no meditation, so you can do it anywhere at any time, even while on the phone.

To help you understand how exactly to apply this technique, I've made this video:

DAILY REVISION

Finally, there is a third way to use revision, and that is by revising your day every night.

Lots of things happens in our lives every day.

Some of them are positive, others are neutral and some are negative.

We are used to thinking that events in the past stay in the past. But Neville taught that events in the past don't stay in the past; they move into the future and create our future experiences.

What this means is that if today you have an experience you don't like, then if you don't revise it, it will form the basis of your expectations and with your imagination -knowingly or unknowingly- you will create more of the same time of experience.

The simple solution to that is to revise your day every night before sleep.

“It is a most healthy and productive exercise to daily relive the day as you wish you had lived it, revising the scenes to make them conform to your ideals. For instance, suppose today’s mail brought disappointing news. Revise the letter. Mentally rewrite it and make it conform to the news you wish you had received. Then, in imagination, read the revised letter over and over again. This is the essence of revision and revision results in repeal.” - Neville Goddard

HOW TO USE THE PRUNING SHEARS OF REVISION TO REVISE YOUR DAY EVERY DAY

This method is best used at night, when your day is over and right before you go to bed for the night.

  • Start replaying your day in your imagination, from the moment you woke up until the time you started the revision practice.

  • Whenever you reach an event you didn't like, instead of playing it in your mind the way it happened, play a new version that is what you would have liked to have happened.

  • Do this for all events that happened within the day.

  • If a specific event was particularly negative or had a strong emotional charge, you may need to play it a few more times in your imagination until the new version feels real and natural to you.
