Raise Your Havingness Level: Introduction

Note: this is the first part in a series of posts on how to raise your Havingness Level.

If you want to read the whole series, you will find links to the rest of the posts at the bottom of this post.

Around this time last year, I wrote a post with the title The Quest- Re-enchant Your Life which proved pretty popular. If you haven't read it yet then go read it.

It is all about how to bring the magic and the adventure back into your life. How to become the hero of your own story, slay all the dragons and get everything you want in life.

And that's awesome, and it can work amazingly well for some people, and in some areas of life. But what about those things we have always wanted, those things that we keep trying to achieve, yet despite our persistent efforts, they remain out of reach? You know what things I'm talking about:

  • Those things that you create a multi-step plan to achieve, yet somehow -even if you do everything right- they never work out the way you'd hoped.

  • Those things you've done spell after spell and ritual after ritual to manifest, yet even though your other spells work great, those ones just never produce any results, or the results are disappointing and short-lived.

  • Those things you want that you keep going to spirit after spirit for, pantheon after pantheon and magical system after magical system, hoping that one of them will finally work for you and get you what you desire.

LET'S TRY A SMALL EXPERIMENT

Imagine that you have everything you have ever desired.

The perfect job, the perfect house, the perfect partner, the perfect body, the perfect friends, the money and the lifestyle.

See it all as clearly as possible in your head.

What does it look like? What does it sound like? Include all your senses and don't hold back; this is your perfect life we're talking about. Really go all out!

Feeling good?

Or are you feeling your gut clench instead and an inner voice saying "that's just too good to be true?".

Or maybe the thought that pops up is that no one can have everything in life; that if you somehow get everything then surely something bad will happen that will take it all away.

THE HAVINGNESS LEVEL

Cookies-Havingness-level--1024x683.jpg

The Havingness Level is your inner alarm that says how much of a good thing you can have before it becomes too good to be true, and you start rejecting it.

More specifically, your havingness level is an inner system that determines how much of something good you can allow yourself to have before your inner alarm goes off and you start feeling uncomfortable with it, thinking it's too good to be true, impossible etc.

And that's where you either sabotage yourself so that you won't get more of that good thing, or you simply stop working towards getting more of it, thinking you already have as much as a person is allowed to have or ask for. Anything more than that and you'd be greedy and self-centered. At least by your standards.

Essentially, your havingness level determines what you believe you deserve.

People can have different havingness levels in different areas of their life.

You may have a high havingness level in romantic relationships for example, but a low havingness level in money, or the other way around.

Ever heard stories about people who won the lottery, only to end up losing it all and ending up in a worse financial situation than they were before they won?

That is what happens when you have a low havingness level.

Even if you are handed something way better than you could possibly imagine, chances are you won't be able to hang on to it for long, unless your havingness level actually changes.

On the other hand, there are people who had millions and lost it all, only to make a fortune again from scratch within a year or two. Those people's havingless level is set to "millionaire".

A person who always struggled with money, won the lottery and lost it all isn't very likely to work on becoming a millionaire again because their havingness level isn't set on "millionaire".

On the other hand, someone who had been a millionaire most of his life and lost it all will do everything in their power to get back to being a millionaire. That's what they're used to. That's the havingness level they are comfortable with.

Most people's havingness level was determined during childhood, based on their family's havingness levels. Which is why it's difficult to even see that this may be what's holding you back.

That same low havingness level you have had all your life in one area is basically the same one your sister, your mother and your father had, and maybe even whole generations of ancestors before you. So it looks normal to you. You don't even notice it.

The good news is that your havingness level isn't set in stone.

You can change your havingness level in any area of your life.

And this is exactly what the Raising Your Havingness Level series aims to help you achieve.

In the coming weeks and months, you're going to read articles that will make you think and discover exercises and tools that could help you get unstuck, think differently, break out of whatever is limiting you and change your havingness level.

And who knows? Maybe you're closer to getting that one elusive thing that you want so much after all!

So if that interests you, subscribe so that you can follow this series as it unfolds.

Some of the stuff you're going to read may be things you already knew about. Others may be totally new to you. Some of the things may be geared more towards magicians while others will be things that don't necessarily require one to be a magical practitioner in order to benefit from them (so you can share them with the non-magical people in your life).

Every person is different and we all have a different set of inner limitations. So feel free to experiment and play with the ideas, the exercises and the tools. And if something doesn't resonate with you, it's ok. You don't have to try everything for the shift to happen!

This is not a step-by-step method to change your havingness level and your life in X number of days. It isn't a course and it isn't linear, with stuff that builds directly on each other (though you never know what combining different things and tools may unlock in you and in your life). Just play with it all and see what changes occur. So without further ado, here's your exercise for today:

HOW TO DISCOVER YOUR HAVINGNESS LEVEL IN A SPECIFIC AREA

There are two ways to discover what your havingness level in a specific area is:

The simplest way is to think if one area of your life has consistently looked pretty much the same for a very long time.

If for example you have been making pretty much the same amount of money every month for the past 10 years, despite changing jobs, moving to a new place etc, this is your havingness level.

If you feel as if you've been dating the same man or woman -only under a different name and in a different body- for most of your life, then those attributes in a partner is where your havingness level is set.

The second method is to think of what the bare minimum is for whatever it is to be worth it for you.

If we're talking about a job for example, what's the bare minimum you require to accept a position?

Once you've found that, then start increasing it until you notice yourself feeling uncomfortable, or you start thinking that it is starting to sound too good to be true.

Your havingness level is just below the first "it's too good to be true" level. That's it for today. Stay tuned for the next installment in the series.
